Descrizione
Auxin is a fundamental plant hormone that regulates nearly every aspect of plant growth and development, from root and shoot architecture to responses to environmental stress. Discoveries in auxin biology have transformed understanding of how plants grow, adapt, and survive, and have contributed to advances in agriculture, biotechnology, and the life sciences. This project will support US participant travel to attend AUXIN 2026, the seventh international conference dedicated to auxin research, bringing together scientists from around the world to exchange new discoveries, technologies, and perspectives. By fostering collaboration among researchers studying plant development, genetics, physiology, computational biology, and biotechnology, the conference will accelerate US scientific progress in an area of research with broad implications for crop productivity, climate resilience, and sustainable agriculture. The meeting will provide professional development opportunities for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career faculty, who comprise a substantial proportion of the speaking program. Additional broader impacts include strengthening partnerships among academic researchers, nonprofit organizations, scientific publishers, and biotechnology stakeholders. Through scientific exchange, workforce development, and dissemination of emerging discoveries, the project advances the National Science Foundation's mission to promote the progress of science and contribute to the nation's prosperity and welfare. This project advances NSF’s priorities in Biotechnology.
AUXIN 2026 will be held October 4–8, 2026, in Albufeira, Portugal, and will convene an international community of researchers investigating the molecular, cellular, developmental, evolutionary, computational, and applied aspects of auxin biology. The conference program will include thematic sessions on auxin signaling, transport, crosstalk with other pathways, metabolism, evolutionary developmental biology, synthetic biology, computational modeling, and biotechnology applications. Presentations will feature invited leaders in the field as well as speakers selected from submitted abstracts, with an emphasis on participation by graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career investigators. Poster sessions and short poster presentations will provide additional opportunities for scientific exchange and networking. Particular attention will be given to emerging approaches that integrate biotechnology, quantitative modeling, genomics, imaging, and computational methods to elucidate auxin-regulated processes and develop new tools for plant research. Outcomes of the conference will include the dissemination of unpublished discoveries, the establishment of new collaborations, and the identification of future research directions in plant biology. Conference findings and perspectives will be further disseminated through a special issue of the Journal of Experimental Botany,
