[Studentship] Wireless power transfer at MHz frequencies
Ente: Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council
Scadenza: 2026-03-30
Paese: GB
Descrizione
Wireless or inductive charging is of increasing interest for the automotive, marine and aerospace sectors, bringing for significant benefits over plug in charging arrangements. The present project will look at systems operating in the MHz region which offer higher power densities, hence smaller size, and can tolerate greater distances between send and receive coils. The project will focus on evaluating two new coil technologies namely the resonant ring resonator and ceramic rings with conductive coatings. These options will be initially be modelled using the COMSOL multiphysics package. Test units will then be constructed and evaluated and performance compared to benchmark solutions using printed circuit boards and copper or aluminium tubes. Finally there is the possibility of installing a system on one of WMG's electric cars. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the wireless charging research team at WMG.
