Descrizione
This project supports participation in the conference "Partial Differential Equations and Spectral Theory" held June 8-10, 2026 at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. This is an official satellite meeting of the 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2026). Partial differential equations and spectral theory are central areas of modern mathematics with broad impact across science and engineering, including applications to quantum mechanics, condensed matter physics, materials science, and engineering design. This conference advances the national interest by fostering the development and dissemination of fundamental mathematical knowledge that underpins these disciplines. By convening leading experts together with graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career faculty, the meeting promotes the progress of science through the exchange of ideas, exposure to recent breakthroughs, and the cultivation of new research collaborations. The award budget is dedicated entirely to participant support, enabling broad participation by non-local attendees, particularly early-career researchers who may otherwise not be able to attend. The conference contributes to workforce development in the mathematical sciences, strengthens international and interdisciplinary research networks, and supports NSF’s mission of advancing scientific discovery, education, and the long-term prosperity and welfare of the nation.
The conference focuses on two closely connected themes: (i) partial differential equations and harmonic analysis, and (ii) spectral theory and mathematical physics. Its goals are to highlight recent advances, identify emerging research directions, and promote interaction between researchers who develop analytical tools and those who apply them to spectral, operator-theoretic, and physical problems. The scientific program consists of two parallel sessions. Topics include new analytic techniques for partial differential equations and boundary value problems, harmonic-analytic methods and quantitative estimates, spectral and scattering theory, operator-theoretic approaches, and applications to mathematical physics. As an official satellite conference of ICM 2026, the meeting leverages international visibility to encourage broad participation and high-level scientific exchange. Expected outcomes include dissemination of current research results, initiation of new collaborations across subfields, and enhanced training opportunities for the next generation of researchers in analysis and mathematical physics. Additional information about the conference is available at https://math.artsandsciences.baylor.edu/ICM-Satellite-Conference.
