Desired start date is 21 September 2026, or sooner. Duties and Responsibilities The duration of the internship is for six (6). The internship is UNPAID and may be either full-time or part-time. It should be noted that full-time internship working hours are 35 hours per week, while part-time internship working hours are 20 hours per week. The internship will be undertaken either remotely outside the duty station or in a hybrid working arrangement at the UN Premise, New York, United States. This internship is located in the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Policy, Knowledge Management and Coordination Branch (PKMCB). Successful applicants will be assigned to the Knowledge Management Unit of the Knowledge Management and Strategic Support Section (KMSSS). PKMCB is responsible for: providing strategic counter-terrorism policy advice and analysis on country/regional engagement and key thematic issues; drafting and coordinating the preparation of reports of the Secretary-General on counter-terrorism, as mandated by the General Assembly and the Security Council; promoting coordination and coherence in the counter-terrorism and PVE work of the United Nations system; developing and strengthening relations with Member States, and partnerships with international, regional and sub-regional organizations, including civil society organizations; supporting relevant intergovernmental processes as mandated, including the review of the United Nations Global Counter- Terrorism Strategy; and supporting the conceptualization, planning, and delivery organization of major UNOCT policy events. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the policy leadership and coordination functions of the Office of Counter-Terrorism to the United Nations system. The intern reports to the Head of the Knowledge Management Unit, under overall guidance from the Chief of Section and Chief of PKMCB . UNOCT was established to: (a) provide leadership on the General Assembly counter-terrorism mandates entrusted to the Secretary-General from across the United Nations system; (b) enhance coordination and coherence across United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact (former CTITF) entities to ensure the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy; (c) strengthen the delivery of United Nations counter-terrorism capacity-building assistance to Member States; (d) improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for United Nations counter-terrorism efforts; and (e) ensure that due priority is given to counterterrorism across the United Nations system and that the important work on preventing violent extremism is firmly rooted in the Strategy. The intern is expected to perform various activities and will work on policy matters related to preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism, including: • Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations, slide decks, knowledge products, etc. • Attend and summarize conferences and meetings. • Gather, select and analyse information contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the press. • Assist in data collection, conduct research and provide analysis on relevant topics. • Keep abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assign
