The fellowships span the humanities and arts, social sciences, natural sciences, technology and medicine, ranging from broad subject-open calls to recruitments targeted at strategic priority areas. Through this university-wide initiative, we offer early-career researchers the opportunity to develop their research over the long term through a six-year tenure-track assistant professorship, with the possibility of promotion to associate professor (senior lecturer). To be considered, you should have earned your doctoral degree no more than seven years ago and be ready to become a research leader. Most of your time will be devoted to your own research, complemented by a smaller share of teaching. You will receive a start-up package to help you build your own research group, including funding for a doctoral student or equivalent, as well as discretionary funding tailored to your field. You will develop your career in a supportive and collegial environment with access to excellent research infrastructure, and a clear pathway to promotion. Umeå University offers well-developed support for assistant professors, covering the entire process from grant writing to the management and archiving of research data. The University also provides research infrastructures and a language programme, which facilitates living and working in Sweden. The Accommodation Service at Umeå University helps international researchers find accommodation for a rental period of up to two years.
