The National Science Foundation (NSF), NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship Program (EGFP) supports EGFP designated institutions/programs in EPSCoR jurisdictions by providing funding for graduate fellowships for eligible applicants. Institutions receive a total of three years of stipend and associated cost-of-education (COE) allowance for each NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellow.
This award at the University of Delaware (UD) seeks to enhance research competitiveness and capacity through an investment in talent development. Fellow research topics will align with goals and programs supported by the NSF Directorate for Biological Sciences (BIO), Directorate for STEM Education (EDU), Directorate for Engineering (ENG), Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS), and Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE). Research topics and activities will focus on several institutional centers of excellence - in biotechnology; data science, including artificial intelligence (AI); and translational science - that align with critical technological themes prioritized by NSF. The four graduate programs in Biological Sciences, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Psychological and Brain Sciences are the centerpiece of this EGFP and are especially well positioned to advance interdisciplinary training around these areas due to the natural alignment of these themes to departmental research strengths and student PhD theses. Launching the proposed EGRP initiatives will allow students to better connect their thesis research to the multifaceted social, business, economic, ethical, and policy contexts associated with biotechnology, data science/AI, and translational science. This project will improve the professional skills of participating students and position these students to take on future leadership roles in their disciplines.
