We are looking for candidates with experience of teaching and marking in higher education at postgraduate level and a completed PhD qualification in a relevant field. As the MA in Artificial Intelligence focuses on the ethical and societal dimensions of AI alongside technical knowledge and application, expertise is required that is not exclusively from data/computer science or AI backgrounds. A suitable tutor could also have specialist knowledge in business management, digital transformation, sociology, criminology and law (as a few examples) and how AI is applied responsibly across diverse sectors and professional contexts. The Online Tutor plays a role in the success and vibrancy of the University’s online programmes and are an academic presence in the modules to which they are assigned. They are usually the first point of contact for academic queries from students. Each Online Tutor will have a group of up to 30 students. During a typical week, the Online Tutor will lead a 1-hour online webinar, engage with students through various asynchronous online activities and respond to, and triage, student queries. Online Tutors also first-mark summative assessments in-line with the University’s assessment policy. This is a flexible, part-time, role. Note that there will be key dates and contact points you will be required to adhere to which are driven by assessment dates in the course calendar. Full details will be provided prior to the start of the module. The Programme This MA conversion programme has been designed for professionals in any sector, including healthcare, agriculture, banking, or beyond. Students may not have any prior AI qualifications or experience. Studying machine learning and statistical learning as well as AI’s social impact, this course will provide a comprehensive foundation to help students learn to use AI responsibly and effectively through one of three pathway options: MA Artificial Intelligence, MA Artificial Intelligence (Criminal Justice Systems), and MA Artificial Intelligence (Digital Transformation). The Modules We are looking for expertise to tutor on the following module, launching in November, and to join our tutor pool; there may be other opportunities to deliver across the wider programme where broader subject knowledge of the ethical and societal dimensions of AI is required. Please see the Southampton Online MA Artificial Intelligence digital brochure for all module overviews. Working with AI Applications (15 credits) Comprising of 6 taught weeks followed by a 4-week assessment period, this module provides students with the knowledge and skills to work with AI applications in various industries and problem domains. They will gain practical experience in implementing AI systems, using popular AI frameworks and tools, and understand how to apply AI technologies to real-world scenarios. Learning outcomes include: identify the computational and data components of an AI system; demonstrate a proficiency in basic coding systems; use a simple AI programming environment; and evaluate and reflect on the use of digital tools. Interviews are planned to take place during the week of 05 October 2026. Share on social media We value your feedback on the quality of our adverts.
