UNTalent Community Details OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME Technical support to Ministry of Health, in collaboration with partners to achieve vaccine-preventable disease eradication,elimination, and control objectives. Improve routine immunization coverage through the implementation of RED; addition of new or under-used vaccines to routine immunization programs; Strengthen logistics of immunization, including vaccine and bio-medical waste management Support to strengthening vaccine preventable disease surveillance; Strengthening capacity of technical members of WCO team, regularly inform team members of activities and provide relevant information: Effective resource mobilization and project management to ensure support to government programs related to vaccine preventable disease control DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES Provide technical support to government and partners for planning, implementation and evaluation of supplementary immunization activities aimed at polio eradication, measles and yellow fever control, and neonatal tetanus elimination; Provide technical support for planning, implementation and evaluation of AFP, measles, neonatal tetanus and yellow fever surveillance designed to achieve eradication. elimination and control objectives; Technical support to vaccine preventable disease outbreak investigation and response; Provide regular information to WCO team re. vaccine preventable disease control activities; Analysis of data from immunization activities (routine coverage, SIA results, surveillance) to be used to take specific action to improve program indicators; assuring regular transmission of these data to all levels; Support strengthening of logistics for immunization, including planning and supervising and evaluating vaccine management, cold chain and waste management systems; Financial and technical management of WHO projects/funds relating to vaccine preventable disease control; Biennial planning in IVD area of work; Support resource mobilization in areas of responsibility, including project planning, proposal development (GAVI) and reporting; Participate in international trainings/meetings or workshops; transfer knowledge gained to WCO technical staff, Ministry of Health technicians and partners where appropriate; Maintain close contacts with WHO inter-country and Regional Offices; identify needs for and coordinate external technical support in area of responsibility; Perform other tasks as assigned by WHO Representative. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education Essential : Medical Doctor with Training in epidemiology or vaccinology. Desirable : Postgraduate degree in Public Health Experience Essential : At least 5 years in the field of vaccination and VPD surveillance, Desirable : Proven experience of working for UN agencies and other vaccination partners. Experience in vaccine preventable disease control Experience working with Surveillance systems including data management Skills Proven experience in working on public health programs,namely for planning, implementation, and evaluation of the interventions. Demonstrated knowledge of vaccination strategies and tools. Skilled in building and promoting partnerships across the organization and beyond. Proven capacities in managing health programs,particularly those related to VPD eradication, elimination, and control. Articulate, able to write quickly, clearly,and concisely; able to synthesize complex problems and present to technical and non-technical audiences WHO Competencies Teamwork Respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences Communication Ensuring the effective use of resources Building and promoting partnerships across the organization and beyond Use of Language Skills Essential : . Intermediate knowledge of French REMUNERATION Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at XOF 24,617,000 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
