Skip to main content Back to search results Principal Investigator in Advanced Genetic Therapy University of Oxford - John Radcliffe Hospital Location: Oxford Salary: £56,623 to £65,336 per annum: Grade 9 Hours: Full Time Contract Type: Permanent Placed On: 2nd September 2026 Closes: 9th October 2026 Job Ref: 187662 Location: John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU Applications are invited for a Principal Investigator in Advanced Genetic Therapy, at the Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NDCLS), part of the large multi-disciplinary Radcliffe Department of Medicine (RDM). This appointment represents a major strategic investment by the University of Oxford, associated with the MRC Centre of Research Excellence in Therapeutic Genomics (MRC CoRE TG). The post has been created as part of Oxford’s commitment to expanding its internationally leading programme in advanced genetic therapies and therapeutic genomics for treatment of genetic disorders. The successful applicant will hold a doctorate in biological sciences or a closely related area, with significant post-doctoral research experience and a proven track record of high quality, internationally recognised research. This will be evidenced by a strong publication record and previous success in securing your own research funding for an ambitious and original research programme aligned with our research activities in translational gene and cell therapy. You will have excellent inter-personal skills demonstrated by inclusive leadership of a research team, supervision of post-graduate students to completion, as well as evidence of good academic citizenship. You will have a strong focus on the impact of your research beyond academia, which could include commercialisation of intellectual property and collaboration with industry. Support for the successful candidate to develop or expand an independent research programme within NDCLS and the MRC Centre of Research Excellence in Therapeutic Genomics will include a substantial package. The final package will be agreed with the successful candidate, taking into account career stage, existing funding and research requirements; this may include dedicated research staff support, start-up funding, consumables and other research expenses, together with access to core research infrastructure. Relocation support may also be available. You will also have a proven record of successful collaboration with colleagues and, ideally, experience of engagement with initiatives such as sustainability, Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). This position is based at the John Radcliffe Hospital and is offered on a full-time basis, permanent upon completion of a successful review, which is conducted during the first 5 years.
