Descrizione
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
The aim of this multidisciplinary project is improve the resistance of UK wheat varieties to loss of breadmaking quality. This will be achieved through a study of the environmental and genetic triggers that induce loss of the Hagberg Falling Number (HFN) and by investigation of the biochemical and molecular events in the grain that are responsible. The characterisation of candidate genes in existing germplasm and the development of smart screens, validated by field experiment on multiple sites over several years, will allow the development of genetic markers for resistance. This will allow UK wheat breeders to produce improved varieties of wheat with stable HFN.
