UNICEF Sudan operates in one of UNICEF’s largest and most complex humanitarian settings, characterized by ongoing conflict, large-scale displacement, severe humanitarian needs, significant access and security constraints, disruption of basic services and infrastructure, and a highly fluid operating environment. The Country Office maintains a decentralized operational presence and delivers through multiple field locations and partnerships, requiring programmes to adapt continuously to changing needs, access and implementation conditions while operating within significant resource constraints. Within this context, WASH is a major component of UNICEF Sudan’s humanitarian and country programme response. The programme addresses large-scale and urgent needs arising from displacement, disease outbreaks, and damaged or disrupted water and sanitation systems, while supporting restoration, resilience and systems strengthening where conditions permit. How can you make a difference? The Chief WASH reports to Deputy Representative Programme (DRP) for general guidance and direction. The Chief is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of the WASH programme from strategic planning and formulation to the delivery of the WASH outcome and output results. The Chief is also responsible for leading and managing the CO WASH team. The Chief WASH is accountable for ensuring that the WASH outcome and output results are achieved according to plans, allocations, results based-management approaches and methodology, UNICEF’s Strategic Plan, standards of performance and accountability framework. If you would like to know more about this position, please review the complete Job Description here: JD Chief WASH Level 5.pdf To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… Minimum requirements Education : Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Management, Hydrology, Public Health, Social Science, Behavior Change Communication, International Development, or another relevant field is required. Work Experience : A minimum of ten years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required, including two years of deployment in a developing country with a proven ability to effectively lead a team to deliver results, and including at least two years of work in a humanitarian context. Skills : Leadership skills, partnership building, strategic thinking, programme development, resource mobilization. Language Requirements : Fluency in English is required. Desirables Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
